TANK SYSTEM DIAGRAM

The current tank system consists of a 50 gallon display tank connected to a 50 gallon refugium and sump combination.

Water leaves the main tank through a 1 1/2" PVC standpipe. Gurgling noises are prevented by using a 90° elbow and a "T" to raise the water level inside the standpipe to just below the water level of the tank. The "T" also allows any trapped air bubbles to escape and keeps the water flow silent.

The water then enters a propagation tray made from a plastic sweater box. It then escapes through two bulkheads into the refugium, then overflows into the sump chamber where the return pump, heater and protein skimmer are. From there the water is sent back to the main tank.

This diagram isn't quite to scale, and the tanks aren't sitting in line like this. They're actually at an angle to each other, forming an "L" with the main tank overlapping the sump chamber of the refugium/sump tank. The main tank can be viewed from three sides, and the top.
